About Rand Dotson: Dotson has a BA in history from Roanoke College (Salem, VA); an MA in history from Virginia Tech; and a PhD in history from Louisiana State University. He has been with LSU Press since 2004. Dotson has taught American history at LSU and at the University of Kentucky. He has published essays and reviews in The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, The Dictionary of Virginia Biography, Encyclopedia Virginia, The Journal of Southern History, The New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, and Blood in the Hills: A History of Violence in Appalachia (University Press of Kentucky, 2012). He is the author of Roanoke, Virginia, 1882-1912: Magic City of the New South (University of Tennessee Press, 2007).
