Lee Smith, a resident of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is the author of eight novels, the most recent of which are The Devil's Dream and Fair and Tender Ladies, and two collections of stories. She has received two O. Henry Awards, the Robert Penn Warren Prize for Fiction, and numerous other honors.
